Port Security Issues

Like many of you, I have my doubts about port security. My concerns have been heightened by the recent disclosure that a company owned by the Untied Arab Emirates (UAE) have been given management authority over several major United States ports.

I do, however, wish to keep and open mind and to that end am doing some research on the topic. There will be a opinion posted here soon. In the meantime, I'd like to hear from you. Please take the Port Security Servey at http://www.opinionpower.com/Surveys/587035284.html

If you have trouble with the survey, please email me directly. Feel free to forward the survey as well as Mitigation Journal to others who may be interested.

I used to work for a large defense contractor in town with Corporate headquarters in Melbourne FL. 15 to 20 years ago there was talk about a British Corporation (Plessey I think) buying us up, but rumor had it that the defense and intel agencies would nix that because of the sensitive nature of our work. This doesn't not seem any different to me than the Dubai Ports World sale.

Granted, the UAE company will just be management rather than operations. But, how many of us have worked at a company where a very senior manager has put an incompetent relative, friend, I-Owe-you-a-favor person into an operations job that they did not deserve. I think there is a thread on MCFW about a certain senior deputy fire chief with a son who wants to get into the RFD....
